Northumberland Whole-Home Renovation

Squirrel Hill

A Squirrel Hill whole-home renovation that opened up a historic floor plan while honoring every bit of original character — from stained glass windows to century-old trim details.

Project Description

This one was all about respecting what was already there while making it work for how people actually live now. Walls came down to connect the kitchen and living room, and in went a fresh kitchen with sage green cabinetry, a deep navy island with cognac leather stools, marble backsplash, and brass hardware paired with globe sconces. But the real story is what they kept — original dark-stained woodwork, stained glass windows, an ornate fireplace mantel with decorative tile, and built-in bookshelves that you just can't replicate. New door and window trim was matched to the home's original detailing, and wood stain was blended seamlessly between old and new flooring. Even the bathroom got a personality all its own with bold floral wallpaper and a dark wood vanity topped with brass fixtures. It's the kind of renovation where the old home and the new work feel like they've always been together.

Frontline Construction was great to work with. Work completed: kitchen renovation, bathroom renovation, indoor wall removal, outdoor wall redo, sliding door installation and refinish of two other rooms. They were detailed from the start by planning out everything needed to open up the space between our kitchen and living room. As items crept up throughout the project, as they do in old homes, they were great at finding solutions to keep with the original vision. They were focused on details throughout the project as well - matching new door and window trim to the house’s original detailing and matching wood stain seamlessly between new and old flooring. Definitely recommend!
