Position Overview
We're seeking a talented Designer to join our team and help create exceptional spaces for our clients. This role is perfect for someone who combines design sensibility with practical construction knowledge, understands how design decisions impact buildability and budget, and thrives in a collaborative environment. You'll work directly with clients to understand their vision, develop comprehensive design plans, select materials and finishes, and coordinate with our construction team to ensure seamless execution. This isn't a purely conceptual design role—it's hands-on, client-facing, and directly connected to the build process.
Key Responsibilities
Client Collaboration
Conduct initial client consultations to understand lifestyle needs, aesthetic preferences, and functional requirements
Present design concepts and guide clients through the selection process
Maintain regular communication throughout projects to ensure client satisfaction
Build strong relationships that result in referrals and repeat business
Design Development
Create comprehensive design plans for luxury kitchens, bathrooms, and whole-home renovations
Develop floor plans, elevations, and detailed drawings using design software
Specify materials, finishes, fixtures, cabinetry, and hardware
Produce design presentations and 3D renderings for client review
Project Coordination
Calculate specifications and cost of materials for accurate project budgeting
Coordinate material procurement and order materials for ongoing projects
Work closely with project managers and field team to ensure the design intent is executed
Prepare documentation for clients, subcontractors, and installation crews
Utilize project management software (Buildertrend) to track project progress
Vendor & Partner Relationships
Maintain relationships with material suppliers, showrooms, and specialty vendors
Source products and materials that meet client expectations and project budgets
Stay current on product lines, design trends, and industry innovations
Qualifications
Required:
2+ years of experience in interior design, architecture, or related residential design field
Portfolio demonstrating design work (especially kitchen and bath projects)
Proficiency with design software (AutoCAD, SketchUp, Chief Architect, or similar)
Strong understanding of residential construction processes and building codes
Excellent verbal and written communication skills
Exceptional attention to detail and organizational abilities
Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously in a fast-paced environment
Valid driver's license for travel to client homes and showrooms throughout Pittsburgh
Preferred:
Experience with luxury residential projects
Knowledge of kitchen and bath design standards (NKBA guidelines)
Familiarity with project management software (Buildertrend experience a plus)
Established relationships with Pittsburgh-area vendors and suppliers
Degree in Interior Design, Architecture, or related field

Compensation & Benefits
Salary:
$50,000 - $70,000 annually (based on experience)
